Summary
The Uphill Christmas Appeal 2025 is focussed on IT skills. Can you help us fund 12 PC laptops for Uphill this Christmas?
The 12 PCs of Christmas!
IT skills are essential for today’s children and adults. Only 25% of Ugandan teachers have a basic understanding of computer use and only 10% have the skills to use computers to enhance their lesson planning and teaching. For pupils in rural schools, lack of electricity, IT equipment and functional internet severely limit their access to digital learning although, when IT skills lessons are introduced in their schools, they learn very quickly.
Due to its rural location, Uphill Junior School has no internet access, but basic IT training has been available for pupils and teachers since 2016. The laptops being used were donated second hand items from the UK and most of those are no longer functioning. Since 2024 we have been funding refurbished laptops bought within Uganda – costing around £150 each – and more are needed!
Our Christmas Appeal for 2025 is to raise money to buy more good quality refurbished laptops for the Uphill pupils and staff, especially as we hope to solve the internet access challenge in 2026!
