Providing our rural children with co-curricular skills alongside their broad range of academic teaching is one of the key missions of Uphill Junior School. With the promise of a generous donation of tools from the charity Workaid, we decided to build a dedicated vocational skills classroom!

For the past decade we have been funding essential infrastructure projects at Uphill Junior School – buying land and funding the construction of good quality school buildings. We have been supporting Uphill Junior School for 10 years now, so we hired a drone to capture the developments from the air. The children were very excited to have a drone in school for a day!

After ticking many boxes and jumping through some last minute hoops we are delighted to announce Uphill Junior School is now a fully registered Ugandan private educational institution! Headteacher Michael and Director Elius are rightly very pleased with the accreditation, which has been a long time coming.

After a long, drawn out build, the new multipurpose school hall is finally in use as a dining hall, for assemblies and parent meetings, and as a performance space.

In February 2022 we were given the opportunity to buy a house with land. This would become the Uphill Staff Accommodation compound. After a year of fundraising the house renovation were complete and 9 teachers moved in.

The new Uphill hall with kitchen is progressing! The walls are up, the roof is on and the plastering has been completed inside and out. Read more about this project here.

As 2022 draws to an end, another Uphill building is rising from the ground – a kitchen with multipurpose school hall!

Uphill supporter Nathan Brown, of Nate’s Creative Digital Solutions, gifted a professional website to Uphill Junior School this year.

It was clear during the trustee visit in February that many of the pupils come to school hungry and stay that way all day. The Uphill Porridge Club will give every child one hot meal a day in school.

The blue roofing sheets and blue-painted classrooms blocks are one of the distinctive features of Uphill Junior School – know within the school community as ‘our blue school’. Now the walls have been painted to match!

Thanks to a generous donation of  library books, plus text books from the Ugandan Ministry for Education, Uphill now has a school library. The trustees helped to get all the books in order and onto labelled shelves during their visit in February 2022.
